Commonwealth Day 2025

President’s Message

“Together we Thrive” the message of this year’s Commonwealth Day is a very fitting theme for us today, for Vancouver, Canada and the Commonwealth as a whole. We are a unique assortment of nations and people united by the three Commonalities of Language, Law and Legislative outcome. His Majesty King Charles III is the Head of the Commonwealth and King of Canada—we are of his Realm! We are not a part of a Continentalist scheme, nor shall we ever be whilst our King and our Commonwealth remain. Sir Winston Churchill once remarked that “Canadians are not made of Sugar Candy”—we are resilient, strong and tough—we, and the Crown and Commonwealth, will thrive and survive!

Today’s event is one which brings together young artists, orators and authors to either display their talents or be recognised for them. Today we are also fortunate enough to be recognising some amazing individuals of their fine efforts in the Community with the King Charles III Coronation Medal. We congratulate all of you on your fine accomplishments.

Today allows us to join together in music, song in celebration and in fellowship to re-affirm the value of our Commonwealth connection, and to take some respite from the world around us—and those who threaten our existence. Together the good in our spirits will triumph, and today’s theme “ Together we thrive” will be our inspiration and our guide moving forward. Vivat Rex, God Save the King, God bless the Commonwealth, God Bless Canada and God Bless you all.
